He is one consistent and dedicated author. What is most appealing about his novels are the simplicity of the narrative. Gabby is a novel both clean and clear in its narrative, just like his Jack Canon series. This is such a treat. After reading the Jack Canon series I was surprised at the soft spoken simplicity and sensitivity of the story of Gabby. Somewhere between a 1940s melodrama and the current crop of angel / demon stories be it in novels or on television, Gabby fits in its own unique space. Having grown up in Maine, Greg Sandora is at his peak strength when writing about the city of Portland, its people and the kind of in everybody else's business culture. Gabby is a angel in this story sent to comfort, guide and enlist the help of a distraught widower. She takes over the story as this larger than life beauty flirting with wanting to be human and taking advantage of her temporary humanness in amusing ways. Then she can just as easily turn around and kick butt when fighting the many demons throughout this very entertaining novel.
